A local councillor has announced his bid to be the Conservative candidate for Hendon at the next general election.

Hendon ward councillor Alex Prager, who was first elected in 2018, published a statement today on his intention to run for the seat following the decision of current MP Matthew Offord to step down.

The councillor said: “I’ve lived locally my whole life, and have chosen to bring up my children in Hendon. For the past five years I’ve had the honour of serving the residents of West Hendon and Hendon as a local councillor.”

He added: “I am excited about the prospective opportunity to advocate for all our communities in Parliament, and am confident that I can deliver results for Hendon following a track record of electoral success and implementing positive initiatives in the area.”

At the 2019 general election, Matthew Offord had a majority of 4,230 over the Labour candidate David Pinto-Duschinsky, who has been selected to fight the seat again at the next election, which is expected to take place in 2024.
