Passengers changing at Bank station will be able to save up to nine minutes on their journeys following the completion of further upgrade works, TfL has confirmed.

A new interchange route, opened on Thursday, will allow passengers to connect directly from the Northern Line platforms to DLR services via three brand-new escalators.

The new Northern Line concourse at Bank opened in May following four months of upgrade works which saw the station closed. It is part of a wider upgrade project at the station that is expected to increase capacity by 40 per cent.

Further upgrades are still expected to be delivered at the station in the near future, including a more direct interchange between Northern and Central line platforms and a new station entrance on Cannon Street.

Seb Dance, London’s Deputy Mayor for Transport, said: “From today, commuters changing between the Northern line and DLR at Bank station will have an incredible nine minutes shaved off their journey times as the next phase of vital upgrades to the station are completed.

“There are still more upgrades to come and once complete the transformed station will have 40 per cent more capacity supporting the recovery, growth and success of the City of London, addressing long-standing capacity issues and making journeys through Bank quicker, easier, and more comfortable.”

Bank is one of the busiest stations on the Underground network and connects to Monument via underground walkways. TfL says that 40 per cent of passengers use Bank station to change lines.
