Four ducklings have been rescued by the RSPCA after they were found abandoned in a Barnet park earlier this month.

A dog walker came across the closed box on a path in Kings George’s Fields at 5pm on Friday 8th March. Having opened the box and found the ducklings inside, he took them home and called the RSPCA.

The ducklings, who have been named Duck, Duck, Duck and Goose by RSPCA staff, are now at South Essex Wildlife Hospital while they wait to be found a new home.

RSPCA inspector Shahnaz Ahmad, who collected the ducklings from the park, said: “The ducklings all seem quite healthy and tame, although one is smaller than the others. Given they were in a closed cardboard box we are investigating it as an abandonment and are looking for information about where they came from.

“It would have been a terrifying experience for the poor ducklings and anything could have happened to them in a busy park. We are very grateful that someone found them and took them home to safety until we could collect them.

“If anyone has any information, please contact our inspectorate line on 0300 123 8018 quoting incident number 01233060.”

Information on keeping ducks and geese as pets is available on the RSPCA website.
