Daryl Hurst on the upcoming play from Garden Suburb Theatre

Garden Suburb Theatre’s summer production is Boudica by Tristan Bernay, a gripping historical drama packed with sword fights, earthy humour and powerful emotion, and alive with themes of identity and belonging that still speak directly to today.
Set in Roman Britain, the play follows Boudica’s fierce uprising against Roman rule after the assault on her and her daughters. After burning Londinium, Boudica and her army may even have passed through what is now Hampstead Garden Suburb on their way to Verulamium (St Albans).
At Little Wood Theatre, in the heart of the Suburb, audiences can experience the magic of a summer production outdoors, surrounded by birdsong, butterflies and the beauty of the wood itself, one of the area’s most enchanting local treasures.
In the Little Wood Theatre you will be transported back to Roman Britain and leave the modern world behind.
Though it tells an ancient story, Boudica pulses with modern urgency: who can you trust in a changing world? Where do you belong in a multicultural society? How do you respond to trauma?
Led by Vickie Browning, a talented local cast will bring Roman Britain thrillingly to life in a production that is as thought-provoking as it is exhilarating.
Performances run from 19th–21st and 25th–27th June 2026. Tickets are on sale now at https://www.ticketsource.com/gardensubtheatre, from £10.
