The new ticket hall at Colindale Station opened yesterday following nearly two years of upgrade work.

The station now has step free access and additional capacity to support the growing population in the Colindale area.

Work on the station upgrade began in January 2024 with funding contributions from central government, Barnet Council and local developers alongside Transport for London (TfL).

The station was closed for six months during the second half of 2024 before reopening last December to allow passengers to access the Northern Line through the existing ticket office.

TfL says works on the station are due to be fully completed by mid-2026. Further improvements will include an accessible customer toilet, permanent signage and new cycle parking facilities.

London’s deputy mayor for transport, Seb Dance, said: “The mayor and I feel strongly that everyone should be able to enjoy everything our great capital has to offer, which means it’s vital we make our transport network as accessible as possible.

“I’m delighted that Colindale is now the 94th step-free Tube station and will benefit from a whole host of other improvements to not only improve accessibility but also support major housing developments in the local area, as well as boosting local businesses and inclusive economic growth. More than a third of Underground stations across the capital are step-free and we are determined to keep growing this number as we build a fairer, better London for everyone.”

Barnet council leader, Barry Rawlings, said: “This is a huge step towards delivering a station fit for purpose in one of London’s fastest growing neighbourhoods. This is a major investment in Colindale’s future and for the people who live there. By making the station step-free and increasing its capacity, we’re ensuring that our growing community can access jobs, education and opportunities across London.”
