The Bees remained top of the pile on goals scored ahead of York City following this narrow win over the ten man Shots at the EBB Stadium.

Following his goalscoring return from the bench following injury in last Saturday’s win Nicke Kabamba made his first start in over a month and his goal would prove to be the difference between the sides.

The Bees without injured Harry Chapman were on the backfoot with the Shots having two sighters at goal in the opening five minutes.

First Hady Ghandour had a shot which forced a comfortable save from Bees keeper Nick Hayes then after a flowing move Theo Widdrington shot wide.

The Bees responded with two chances of their own before the ten minute mark was up.

Kabamba’s header following a sublime Idris Kanu cross into the box held by goalkeeper Marcus Dewhurst, then moments later Dewhurst extended himself to get fingers onto Mark Shelton’s shot to divert the ball onto the crossbar.

Twenty six minutes in and the Bees faithful were celebrating as table toppers took the lead.

A good passing move between Zak Brunt and on loan Bailey Hobson in for his first start produced a fine cross into the box for Kabamba to head home into the far corner of the net with Dewhurst rooted on his line.

Then within four minutes, the referee who would give out nine yellow cards during the game gave a straight red card to Shots skipper Aaron Jones for a vicious tackle on Kanu.

Despite being a man light the Shots did create two further chances going into half time, first Widdrington with a free kick which just cleared the bar followed near the interval by a good move ending with Ghandour’s shot going past the post.

The second half didn’t quite live to the first with very few sighters on both goalmouths with the Bees failing to take advantage of the Shots being a man light.

Despite the win, their fourth in a row manager Dean Brennan was far from happy with this team’s performance, calling it poor.

The Bees return to the Hive this Saturday with the visit of AFC Fylde in the first of two home games in succession.
