A Barnet bus route described by a local councillor as ‘iconic’ is being extended this month to serve the new Brent Cross West Station.

Starting Saturday 17th February, the 189 bus will be rerouted to stop outside the entrance of Brent Cross West station and continue to Brent Cross shopping centre.

There will be no change to the frequency of the route, which runs from Marble Arch to Brent Cross Shopping Centre. Buses will continue to operate every 10 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 12 minutes during the evening and on Sundays. The route has a 24-hour service and buses will continue to operate every 30 minutes on all nights of the week.

Councillor Anne Clarke, Cabinet member for Community Wealth Building, and Cricklewood Ward Member said: “The 189 is one of London’s most iconic routes, the 24-hour service connects Brent Cross Shopping Centre to West Hampstead, Kilburn, Abbey Road where the Beatles famously crossed and Selfridges. This link also enables better access to the Jubilee line from Brent Cross West station.”

To allow the bus to stop outside Brent Cross West,  it will drive into the new Parkview Avenue (previously called Claremont Park Road) and Arbour Street, before turning back, following the same roads to re-join Claremont Road.

Parkview Avenue and Arbour Street are part of the new network of roads that will be built upon as new homes, offices and retail spaces are delivered at the Brent Cross Town development.

Councillor Alan Schneiderman, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, and Cricklewood Ward Member, said: “We have been looking forward to welcoming the new 189 bus service, which will now stop outside our new Brent Cross West station. This provides even more accessible ways for people to get around the local area, connecting communities in a more sustainable way”.
