The capital’s newest railway station is set to open in Brent Cross next month, enabling commuters to reach Central London in as little as 12 minutes. The long-awaited Brent Cross West Station will welcome passengers from December 10th after receiving a £400 million investment from the government.

The four platform station sits between Cricklewood and Hendon stations on the Midland Main Line, at the Brent and Barnet border. The new transport link is said to be “essential” to unlocking further development in the area.

Thameslink trains will connect Kings Cross St Pancras to Brent Cross in around 12 minutes, with up to eight trains an hour at peak times. It will provide a direct connection to Luton Airport and link up with the Elizabeth at Farringdon Station.

The 7,000sqm station, one of the first rail projects in England to be delivered entirely by a council, will also connect the boroughs of Brent and Barnet via a new public overbridge. The 150-year-old landmark will provide the first pedestrian access across this stretch of the Midland Main Line since it was first built in the 19th century.

The project’s lead developers, Barnet Council, said it has been designed “as a gateway to a new neighbourhood” called Brent Cross Town – a planned 180-acre development. The net zero scheme is set to provide around 6,700 new homes, as well as office space and a new high street.

It will also offer greater transport connections for Brent Council’s development project at Staples Corner. The local authority said the station will support “regeneration and housing delivery” for the scheme, which will see the area turned into a mixed-use community of around 2,200 new homes, as well as office space.

Barnet Council’s cabinet member for environment and climate change and Cricklewood ward councillor, Alan Schneiderman, said: “The new Brent Cross West station is fundamental to our plans to transform the local area. We look forward to this impressive new station opening soon, providing new ways for people to visit our brilliant borough and additional, sustainable ways for local people to travel.”
