The group committed over 20 burglaries across London stealing nearly £40,000 worth of jewellery

Four prolific burglars who were arrested in a Cricklewood pub were jailed last week for committing more than 20 burglaries across London over a two-month period.
John Casey (aged 43), Michael Casey (47), Martin Maloney (42) and Sean McGoldrick (50) were jailed at Harrow Crown Court for periods ranging from five years and four months to eight years and six months for conspiracy to commit burglary.
The group carried out 22 ‘distraction burglaries’ targeting elderly and vulnerable people. They initially posed as workmen to distract the occupier then, having been let into the home, carried out a search for cash and jewellery.
The group drove a variety of different vehicles to carry out the burglaries in Tower Hamlets, Colindale, Ealing, Barnet, Greenwich, Hillingdon, Brent, Enfield, Hounslow, Islington and Barnet.
In total they stole £39,695 worth of jewellery, including engagement rings and family heirlooms. The bulk of the hoard came from a single offence in west London, where £23,720 of jewellery was stolen. They also stole £13,340 cash.
John Casey, Michael Casey and Martin Maloney were arrested in Cricklewood on March 29th 2022 having been observed by police visiting an address of an elderly person. Sean McGoldrick was arrested a few days later.
Detective Superintendent Simon Moring, from the Met’s Central Specialist Crime – Flying Squad, said the group were: “sophisticated in their offending and forensically aware.”
He added: “They frequently changed vehicles to evade capture. I should like to thank the members of the public who provided police with information and CCTV footage. I should also like to pay tribute to all officers and staff who have worked tirelessly to bring about these convictions.”
