Plans to carry out a range of improvement works on playing fields next to the Brent Cross regeneration scheme have been submitted to Barnet Council.

The proposals for Clitterhouse Playing Fields, an 18-hectare green space to the south of the ‘Brent Cross Town’ development, include sports and play facilities, a pavilion building including a cafe, and new cycle and pedestrian paths.

According to a planning statement, the scheme will “significantly enhance and upgrade” the playing fields to provide an “improved green landscaped open space, as well as inclusive facilities for outdoor recreation, sport, activity and enjoyment, serving both new and existing residents of all ages in Barnet”.

The plans – drawn up by Brent Cross South Limited Partnership, a joint venture between Barnet Council and developer Related Argent – form part of the 6,700-home Brent Cross Town project, and have been informed by two rounds of public consultation.

They include four all-weather artificial grass pitches, two children’s playgrounds, two multi-use games areas, a basketball court and outdoor gym.

A network of pedestrian and cycle routes would link the facilities with the surrounding area, and the proposals include parking spaces for 152 bikes.

The new pavilion building would include public toilets, sports changing rooms with associated storage lockers, and a cafe. Further informal recreation space would include grass areas, picnic areas, new seating and drinking fountains.

The proposals are also designed to improve drainage, as the existing playing fields can become waterlogged during wet weather.

The plans can be viewed by visiting Barnet Council’s planning portal and entering reference 22/5617/FUL.
