Plans for the development of a historic Edgware pub are open for consultation until the end of next month.

The scheme put forward by Edgware Limited would see the Railway Hotel in Station Road transformed as part of a 523-home residential development.

The pub, which was built in 1931, has Grade 2-listed status. It closed as a pub in 2006 and has since suffered vandalism and fire damage.

The plan is an amended version of one put forward by the developers for consultation with local residents last year, which received a cautious welcome at the time.

Describing the current situation on the website, Edgware Limited said: “A planning application has now been submitted to restore Edgware’s much-loved Grade-II-listed Railway Hotel, open up the neglected Forumside site, and create new public spaces, homes, places to eat, and work at the heart of the town centre.

“This is a real chance to repair a neglected local landmark and help Edgware feel greener, safer and more connected.”

However at time of writing, comments on the application on Barnet Council’s planning portal have been overwhelmingly negative with 36 out of 40 comments being objections.

The consultation closes on Friday, 30th October and the application: 26/0536/FUL can be viewed and commented on at https://publicaccess.barnet.gov.uk/online-applications/
