Season of festive magic, big names and community spirit

Chickenshed’s autumn and winter season promises something for everyone, writes Susan Jamson

As autumn approaches, we at Chickenshed are preparing to welcome audiences to a packed programme of theatre, music, comedy and community events, bringing together people of all ages in a season that celebrates creativity, connection and inclusion.

At the heart of the programme is 12 Days, Chickenshed’s major festive production, running from Wednesday, 18th November to Saturday, 9th January.

Inspired by the Twelve Days of Christmas, this original family adventure follows five children chosen by the Turtle Doves to discover the true meaning of love. Their quest to find five hidden golden rings leads them through a magical world of curious characters, original music and festive surprises.

Brought to life by a cast of more than 200 performers, the production explores themes of empathy, courage and belonging that have become hallmarks of Chickenshed’s unique approach to theatre-making.

For younger audiences, the return of Christmas Tales offers a lively and interactive festive adventure. Families with children aged up to seven can join the Tales team as they race to unlock Christmas after Clumsy the Elf loses the code to a mysterious safe. Packed with songs, challenges and audience participation, the production promises festive fun for the smallest theatregoers.

The season also features a range of special events and live entertainment.

Entertainer and long-time Chickenshed ambassador Rory Bremner will also take to the stage in November, for a special evening of comedy, conversation and unforgettable impressions.

Music lovers are equally well catered for; Chickenshed co-founder Jo Collins returns with two instalments of her popular Jo Collins & Friends evenings, while rock fans can relive the soundtrack of the 1980s and 1990s when Shot in the Dark Reloaded comes to the theatre in October.

The season also includes the inspiring community production Change The Record, bringing together different generations through music, theatre and shared memories.

Alongside our performance programme, Chickenshed continues to provide opportunities for people of all ages to get involved creatively. Young children can explore storytelling and sensory play through Planet Play, Tales from the Shed and Halloween Tales, while aspiring performers can develop their skills through the theatre’s popular Sunday workshops for children and young people.

Adults are invited to discover their own creative talents through a range of inclusive activities, including acting workshops, musical theatre sessions and the ever-popular Community Choir, which welcomes singers of all abilities.

Community remains central to everything Chickenshed does. Every ticket sold helps support our mission to ensure theatre remains accessible to everyone, regardless of background, experience or ability.

Through workshops, performances and outreach programmes, thousands of people each year find a place where creativity, confidence and belonging can flourish.
