A Hendon resident celebrated her 100th birthday last month with a visit from both the mayor of Barnet and the King of rock’n’roll.

Muriel Bloch celebrated her 100th birthday on 24th April at Signature at Hendon Hall. Residents, team members, family, and friends were treated to a live Elvis tribute performance and a special visit from the borough’s mayor Danny Rich.

Home Manager Orla Green shared her admiration for Muriel. She said: “It has been an absolute privilege to celebrate such a significant milestone with Muriel.

“She is a truly inspiring lady with a wonderful spirit, and it was heartwarming to see so many people come together to honour her life and achievements. Days like this remind us how special our community here at Hendon Hall really is.”

Muriel was born in 1926 in the East End of London to a close-knit family of ten children, Muriel being the eighth.

Growing up in Willesden Green, she describes her childhood as happy and filled with fond memories. She later owned her own hairdressing salon but retired at just 32 to care for her son after he fell ill. When her children grew up, she dedicated her time to voluntary work, continuing her lifelong passion of helping others.

Now, Muriel enjoys spending time with others, playing card games, keeping up with family on social media, and listening to classical music. After a century, she said: “Bringing up my family has been my greatest accomplishment.”
