Cllr Nigel Young is leaving Childs Hill to stand in Woodhouse at next year’s elections

It’s an enormous honour to serve Childs Hill as a local councillor. It is a place full of great people and the community in Childs Hill has inspired me with their kindness and passion for the area. I am looking forward to continuing to serve Childs Hill every day until Polling Day on 7th May 2026 when I will be standing in Woodhouse, my home ward for the last 25 years, where a vacancy has arisen for a Labour candidate.
Cllr Giulia Innocenti has decided to step down as a councillor for personal reasons and I am pleased that Cllr Matthew Perlberg will be standing as a candidate in Childs Hill in 2026. I look forward to supporting Matthew and the other Childs Hill Labour candidates, Noam Herberg and Sue Waller in the months ahead. I wholeheartedly endorse them.
They all have strong local connections, having lived in Childs Hill for many years and are passionate about supporting the community. Noam has grown up and lives in Childs Hill close to Golders Green Town Centre and knows the area and community well, he campaigns on local issues and for disability and refugee charities and volunteers for the local foodbank. Sue has worked in housing, supporting homeless families and volunteers at the local foodbank. She is currently campaigning for increased controls on high street gambling outlets.
I am proud of Barnet Labour’s achievements in Childs Hill since 2022. It has been a privilege to work together with Giulia and Matthew in Childs Hill, where we have seen:
- improvements to our parks with projects such as Basing Hill Playground;
- neighbourhood greening on The Vale, Hermitage Lane and Cloister Road;
- improvements to roads and pavements including The Vale, Finchley Road and Wellgarth Road plus many more; and
- improvements, upgrading and expansion of our CCTV system especially around Golders Green.
And there is more to come! For example, we have secured more funding for greening projects on the Granville Estate and Cricklewood Lane/All Saints School and improvements to Golders Hill Park playground as well as road safety schemes at Hoop Lane, Ravenscroft and West Heath Road.
I am also proud that we have supported approximately 2,500 local resident cases ranging from fixing potholes to resolving complex housing issues and community safety concerns.
It continues to be an absolute privilege to be a governor at All Saints School and I am grateful for this opportunity and the joy that working with fellow governors, teachers, staff and pupils brings.
I would like to thank the people of Childs Hill again for your support, your commitment to the area and your welcome, it has been and continues to be a huge honour to serve and to work together with you.
