Barnet youngsters interest in this season’s FA Youth Cup is over for another season following defeat against Colchester in front of a decent sized crowd on a bitterly cold night at The Hive on Wednesday.

It ended up becoming a stroll for the visitors whose keeper Oscar Roberts was barely tested throughout the 90 minutes.

Pedro Buburuzan’s deep cross in the tenth minute for the Bees caught Roberts napping but, luckily for him, the ball hit the top of the bar and was cleared away.

The Essex side’s opener arrived on 26 minutes when James Sasare sprayed an excellent ball to the feet of Lennox Emery who managed to shrug off a defender before slotting the ball in off the post to beat keeper Anthony Haralambous.

Eleven minutes later, the U’s doubled their advantage from the penalty spot when skipper Owen Moore was hauled down by Bolaji Jacob and Moore scored with ease with a calm low strike.

Two minutes from half time, the Bees had a couple of chances to reduce the arrears but Garry Gibbs blasted the ball over the bar whilst Paolo Kalamaras shot went wide.

The second half opened with Emery shooting past the post after Moore set him up however, on the hour, the U’s scored goal number three to wrap up the win when Leo Makatta rounded the Bees’ custodian to score from a tight angle.

The Bees did come close to having the final say with a consolation goal but Josiah Anning’s shot from eight yards deflected onto the bar via a U’s boot.

The Essex side now head north to face FC Halifax Town in round three early next month.
