Nick Sandamas sees the Bees triumph in the Football League Trophy

Barnet 1 Brighton U21 1
(Barnet won 5-4 on penalties)
Barnet triumphed on spot kicks following a draw against Brighton U21 in this Football League Trophy group stage match to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage.
Callum Stead had scored his first goal of the season for the Bees to cancel out a first half thunderbolt from Josh Robertson.
Dean Brennan shuffled his pack, making nine changes to his starting line up with Stead & Adam Senior the only survivors from last Saturday’s draw against Oldham.
The first chance of the match fell to Bees midfielder Dennis Adeniran, but could only place his header over the bar.
There were a number of stoppages thereafter due players needing treatment including the Seagulls’ keeper Tom McCall whose night ended on the half hour to be replaced by sub keeper Nils Ramming.
Then, with three minutes to go to half time, the Seagulls took the lead when a long pass by Zane Albarus found Robertson whose run and shot was too hot for keeper Owen Evans as it flew into the net.
The start of the second half saw a couple of home changes with Danny Collinge & Ollie Hawkins entering the action in place of Anthony Hartigan & Adam Senior.
The Seagulls almost doubled their lead within three minutes of the restart but Evans got fingertips to Nehemiah Oriola’s curling shot to take the ball over the bar.
Then short of the hour mark, a piece of magic from Ben Winterburn produced the equaliser as he found Stead to calmly dink his shot over the sub keeper for a deserved leveller.
Stead almost shot the home side into the lead ten minutes later, but Ramming got down well to scramble the ball off the goal line.
The Seagulls almost won it in stoppage time, but Evans reacted well to push Sean Keogh’s header away following a corner.
The shoot out ensured, Winterburn had a chance to win it, but Ramming saved to take it to sudden death. Ryan Galvin scored, but Freddie Simmons blazed over to end proceedings.
The Bees welcomed Accrington Stanley today.
