An employee at Barnet Specsavers has raised over £1,000 for charity after completing a 100 mile charity walk.

Barnet store director, Pragna Raghwani took on the challenge to walk 100 miles in support of charity international medical health charity Sightsavers.

Pragna set out to complete her 100-mile goal in May, aiming to raise awareness and funds to support Sightsavers’ mission to provide cataract operations for people in need across Africa and Asia. She has raised over £1000 so far, and donations are still coming in.

Pragna said: “I’ve undergone four eye operations and live with 50% vision loss. I understand just how precious sight is, and how much it shapes everyday life. I know firsthand how life-changing access to eye care can be.

“Walking 100 miles wasn’t easy, but every step felt worthwhile, knowing the difference we’re making together.”

Despite being partially blind herself, after being diagnosed with normal tension glaucoma in 2010, Pragna has not allowed her visual impairment to limit her personal and professional ambitions.

Over the course of her career, Pragna has been an examiner, mentor, and coach for the Association of British Dispensing Opticians.

Her commitment to the field extends to her involvement in local school career fairs, where she actively engages with young people, sharing insights about pursuing careers in optical and audiological care.

Specsavers’ Barnet team have expressed their pride in supporting Pragna’s fundraising efforts. Optometrist Director Sabirah Peara said: “We couldn’t be prouder of Pragna and her amazing achievement.

“Pragna embodies the spirit of our store and our mission to ensure that everyone can have access to eye and hear care.”
