Residents of NW2 have come together in an inspiring display of community spirit to transform the Cloister Road roundabout in Childs Hill into a vibrant, productive, and attractive green space. This initiative is turning an often-overlooked area into a flourishing garden filled with flowers, herbs, vegetables, and fruits.

The project officially launched on 1st March with an incredible sunny day of planting and community effort. Volunteers filled six large planters with compost and planted a beautiful variety of plants. In addition, four tree pits on the street were cleared and sown with wildflower seeds. The residents hope this will brighten up the street and attract pollinators.

My vision as a local resident is that on summer days when I’m cooking dinner, I can pop outside to grab some fresh herbs or veggies and meet neighbours doing the same. The launch event was an amazing afternoon — all ages joined in. It was especially nice to see the kids getting their hands in the mud, planting onions and making friends.

The Roundabout Garden NW2 group is already building momentum, with plans for ongoing planting, watering, and maintenance. Collaborative efforts ensure the project aligns with highways standards while creating a sustainable and welcoming community space.
