May 8th this year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of Word War II in Europe

Barnet Council is inviting residents to host street parties in May to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

VE Day, short for Victory in Europe Day, commemorates the end of World War II in Europe on 8th May 1945. Celebrations will be taking place across the country from 8th May to 11th May this year.

This council says the anniversary is “a great opportunity for the local community to come together and honour those who served during the war” and is encouraging the borough’s residents to organise parties alongside their neighbours.

In order to host a party, a free application for road closure needs to be submitted by Friday, 4th April.

The council is expecting a high number of applications and encourages residents to apply as soon as possible.
