Knighthood for philanthropist ‘instrumental’ to growth of local children’s hospice

Sir Jeremy Isaacs CBE

The former chair of a North London children’s hospice has said he is “honoured” to have been knighted in the New Year’s Honours.

Jeremy Isaacs was bestowed the honour by King Charles for services to philanthropy and children’s hospice care, following his many years of work supporting Noah’s Ark, a charity based in Barnet which also serves Enfield and Haringey.

Sir Jeremy is an honorary life chair of Noah’s Ark, having previously served as chair between 2017 and 2022 as well as having been a trustee since 2009.

He is said to have been “instrumental” in the story of the charity having led the £13.5million appeal to ‘Build The Ark’ with support from the construction industry, health sector and a number of private and third sector organisations to ask for their help to build a new home for Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice. Sir Jeremy was also “key” in scoping out and securing the plot in Barnet where The Ark would finally be opened by London mayor Sadiq Khan in September 2019.

Since 2009 when Sir Jeremy joined as a trustee, the annual income of Noah’s Ark has grown from £600,000 to £7.6m. His guidance and support has empowered Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice to be ambitious about the difference they make to the lives of the children and families who need them.

Sir Jeremy is also the founder of JRJ Group and participates in numerous philanthropic activities including as trustee of The J Isaacs Charitable Trust. He was previously a non-executive director of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and a member of the British Olympic Advisory Board.

Sophie Andrews OBE, charity chief executive, said: “Sir Jeremy Isaacs CBE has had a huge impact on the growth and development of Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice. His business acumen, determination and guidance have been vital to our success, and we owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude.”

Sir Jeremy added: “I am honoured to have been awarded this accolade.

“Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice has always been very close to my heart and I’m proud to have been involved in their expansion into a multi award-winning charity.”
