Super sub Browne’s later header wins it for the Bees reports Nick Sandamas
Barnet 2 Altrincham 1
Summer signing Rhys Browne came off the bench to score on his Barnet debut in injury time to secure a vital three points for the Bees on Tuesday.
Joe Grimwood, recalled by the Bees from his loan spell at Braintree, went straight into the starting eleven for his debut at right back.
On a cold night dominated by the wind and rain, it was the visitors who opened the scoring in the 14th minute when former Bees academy product Justin Amaluzor planted a great pass to the left to the running Regan Linney. He beat his man and crossed low into the box and Amaluzor was there to sweep the ball into the net to give his side the lead.
However, within 13 minutes of the opener, the Bees were back on level terms when Zak Brunt played a sweet pass into the box to Harry Chapman and he fired the ball into the net past Alty keeper Ethan Ross.
The second half opened with Alty’s Alex Newby firing a shot which keeper Nick Hayes held low down at the second attempt and, minutes later, goalscorer Chapman produced a run which ended with his shot flashing wide of the far post.
Following a couple of changes from the Alty bench, the visitors created another chance on 65 minutes but Jake Cooper flashed a header wide following a free kick from Tom Crawford.
Jordan Cropper came off the Bees bench for his first appearance of the season following injury and within minutes made a chance for Mark Shelton, which produced a fantastic one handed stop from Ross to turn the ball behind for a corner.
Then, with ten minutes to go, the Bees produced a shot which hit an Alty hand in the area but the referee waved away the appeals.
But in the second minute of time added on, Browne won it for the Bees when Cropper produced one of his massive long throws into the box and found the head of the number eight to head into the net and send the Bees fans into delirium.
Matty Kosylo had one final chance to salvage a point for the visitors in the final minute of time added on, but it was relief for the Bees, with the shot trickling past the post.
Three points for the Bees therefore maintaining their 100% home record, remain sixth in the table just two points away from top spot.
The Bees are back at The Hive this Saturday with newly promoted Braintree the visitors.
