Chipping Barnet MP says cameras should be used to catch drivers throwing litter from cars reports David Floyd

The MP for Chipping Barnet has called for new action to ‘catch litterbugs’ using cameras in place to tackle traffic offences.
Theresa Villiers put a debate on the agenda in parliament yesterday to put forward the idea of using Automatic Number Plate Recognition Cameras (ANPR) to catch people through rubbish from their cars.
She said: “There are around 11,000 ANPR cameras around the country used to monitor vehicles. Why can’t we use these to catch litterbugs too?”
Adding: ““When cameras can be the basis of fines for so many traffic offences, why not for chucking rubbish out of a car window as well?”
The MP has a long track-record of campaigning on the issue of litter. In 2018, the MP she brandished a Crunchie wrapper in the House of Commons to highlight the ‘truly depressing’ issue of litter left on the backbenches by her parliamentary colleagues.
