Parents charged with baby’s murder in North Finchley

A North Finchley mother and father have been charged with murder after the death of their three-month-old son earlier this month.

Dounia Chetaouat, 32 of Kingsway, North Finchley and Abdelkader Essid, 44, of Clandon Gardens, Finchley were charged last week with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. 

Emergency services had been called to their home on Kingsway shortly after 11.30am on Friday, 30th January following a report of an unresponsive baby. 

Paramedics performed emergency first aid before taking the baby to hospital with significant injuries. 

The baby’s parents were arrested later that day on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm then, on Monday, 2nd February appeared at Ealing Magistrates’ Court charged with causing or allowing serious physical harm to a child and were remanded in custody. 

The baby died in hospital on Tuesday, 17th February. 

On Wednesday, 18th February both parents were charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child.

They are expected to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court this afternoon. 

Detectives continue to appeal for anyone with information that could assist the investigation to call 101 or message @MetCC on X with the reference CAD 2297/31JAN.
