Barnet 1 Crewe Alexandra 1

Barnet had to settle for a point on Tuesday as they drew 1-1 with a Crewe Alexandra side who went into the game just a place above the Bees in the table on a rainy night at The Hive.

Following a recent run of good results, the Bees were hoping to carry on their recent run and, on six minutes, had the perfect start when a long punt from Adam Senior found Ollie Hawkins (making his first start since September) and he nodded the ball to Kabongo Tshimanga who fired low first time beyond Alex keeper Ian Lawlor to give the home side the lead.

The Alex roared back and, on 22 minutes, Tommi ‘O’Reilly had a chance but his close range shot was blocked on the line.

Eventually, on 32 minutes, the equaliser did arrive when sweet play from the left by Reece Hutchinson saw him find Owen Hunt and he swept the ball home past the diving Ciaran Slicker in the Bees goal.

The Bees began to drive forward in search of a half time lead, and did come close, but Danny Collinge’s low shot went just past the post.

Anthony Hartigan came on for the start of the start of the second half to strengthen the midfield with Hawkins being sacrificed but it was the visitors who came close to taking the lead on the hour as Slicker did well to beat away a shot by Hutchinson.

The game petered out somewhat with both sides cancelling each other out but, as the game entered stoppage time, one last throw of the dice almost produced a winner with Bees’ sub Kane Smith having a chance. However, his shot drifted wide and a point apiece ensued which, on the balance of play, was a fair result.

The Bees are on the road tomorrow to face another side above them in Walsall.

Team: Slicker, Collinge, Tavares (Smith 75), Senior (Chinedu 60), Kizzi, Glover, Shelton, Ofoborh (Jaiyesimi 87), Hawkins (Hartigan 46) Tshimanga, Kanu (Browne 75)

Subs not used: Evans, Assombalonga

Attendance 1908 (213 away)
