Rosie Fiore-Burt on the upcoming performance from Theatre in the Square

East Finchley-based community theatre group Theatre in the Square is performing a frothy, jazzy version of As You Like It in St Mary’s Church in Hendon from December 10th-13th.
Following the success of their All’s Well That Ends Well in December 2024 in the same venue, the group will be bringing this delightful comedy to warm away the winter blues. Set in the 1920s, the production features an original soundtrack by talented local composer Joe Loveday, performed live by a jazz quartet. The show is directed by Rosie Fiore-Burt and features exquisite 1920s costumes by Danielle Flower.
As You Like It tells the love story of Orlando and Rosalind, who following a chance meeting are both banished to the forest of Arden. Rosalind is disguised as a boy for her safety. She persuades Orlando who is yearning for his lost love, to practice wooing her in her guise as a witty young man. This funny and touching play is one of Shakespeare’s most accessible comedies, and features a cast of dukes, duchesses, fools, shepherds and melancholic poets, as well as offstage sheep, lions and snakes!
Running time is two hours including interval. A bar will offer mince pies, mulled wine and other refreshments. Tickets are available at ticketsource.co.uk/theatreinthesquare
