Nick Sandamas on another loss for the Bees

Bromley 2 Barnet 0
Barnet’s indifferent start to the season continued yesterday with two-nil loss against Bromley at Hayes Lane. Nicke Kabamba was on the scoresheet against his former side to leave them bottom of the table. pointless & goalless after the opening two league games.
Following last week’s defeat against Fleetwood, Dean Brennan rang the changes with six players coming in, including a debut in goal for Ipswich loanee Cieran Slicker.
Both sides cancelled each other out and it wasn’t until the half hour mark that the first chance came, as Idris Kanu’s fine run and shot ended with Ravens’ keeper Grant Smith brilliantly tipping over.
Then, on 37 minutes, the Ravens took the lead when last season’s League Two top scorer Michael Cheek got ahead of the defence to score from close range following a fine free kick from Ben Thompson, which had been given after Romany Crichlow had fouled Marcus Ifill just on edge of the area.
With five minutes of the second half gone, Slicker produced a fine flying save to deny Mitch Pinnock a second home goal.
Then, with an hour gone, Danny Collinge’s slackness let in Corey Whiteley who provided Cheek with a chance to score his and his side’s second goal but the striker could only fire over the bar.
Soon after, another mistake in the Bees’ backline let in Thompson for a clear run on goal, but somehow he shot wide.
Joe Hugill had a great chance to haul the Bees level with 15 minutes to go when Kane Smith played him in but somehow he could only find the side netting.
The Ravens sealed the win in the fifth minute of stoppage time when Smith’s wayward pass across the middle was intercepted by Will Hondermarck who then fed the ball to Kabamba for a clear run towards goal and he slotted home past Slicker to score with ease to seal the Ravens first win of the season.
So another tough afternoon for the Bees, despite creating a few chances they currently lack the finishing touch whilst mistakes at the other end are costing them.
Next Saturday sees last season’s play-off finalists Walsall visit The Hive.
