Barnet 3 Boston United 1

The Bees made it six wins in a row to move three points clear at the top after coming from behind to beat third from bottom Boston United.

The leaders could have been a goal in front in the opening minute when Callum Stead was presented with a great chance to score, however his shot saw Pilgrims’ keeper Aidan Stone get down low to his left to push his shot away.

Five minutes later and the Bees were shocked with the Pilgrims going ahead: a ball by Jacob Hazel through the Bees defence found Keaton Ward who ran towards goal and shot low past keeper Nick Hayes and into the net to send the large away following into dreamland.

The Pilgrims continued to frustrate the Bees for the rest of the half, with the leaders limited to very few sights of goal: the best being a half chance for Zak Brunt at the midway point when his shot was deflected into the grateful arms of Stone, whilst Nicke Kabamba had a few opportunities which didn’t cause any alarm to the visitors.

Minutes into the second half, the Bees were awarded a free kick 30 yards from goal. With Anthony Hartigan and Ben Coker standing over the ball, Coker took the kick and blasted the ball against the bar and away from the goal.

Then, on 57 minutes, the equaliser finally arrived when a delicious ball into the box from the left by Coker found the head of Stead, who planted the ball into the corner of the net with Stone static on his goal line.

Thirteen minutes later, the leaders completed the turnaround when a low cross into the box by Idris Kanu came off a Pilgrims’ boot to find the head of Nik Tavares and the centre half place the ball into the net for his first goal in a Bees shirt since his summer arrival.

Kanu had a great chance to put the game beyond doubt with ten minutes left, but Stone turned his low strike away for a corner.

However it was only a matter of time before the Bees settled the contest and, with four minutes, left Kabamba did just that with goal number three, a clever back heel after Jordan Cropper had set him up, his fourth goal in his last four games since returning from injury.
