Barnet Legends is a 21 site art trail paying tribute to the borough’s historic people

Barnet Council has launched a new map and guide to a twenty one site art trail celebrating inspirational figures who have contributed to the borough’s rich and unique cultural tapestry.

Collectively know as Barnet Legends, each site has a specially commissioned artwork by artist and architect Edward Crooks paying tribute to a different person in the fields of art, film, literature, music, design, aviation, commerce and culture.

People celebrated include:

‘Forces’ sweetheart’ Vera Lynn at the Royal Airforce Museum
Music superstars Amy Winehouse and George Michael at Finchley Youth Centre
Bagpuss and Clangers creator Oliver Postgate at North Finchley library
Cricket and football legend Denis Compton at Hendon Leisure Centre
London Tube map designer Henry Beck at Finchley Church End library
Founder of the UK’s first children’s library Eileen Colwell at Hendon library.
