Zak Brunt struck gold in the third minute of stoppage time scoring to give the Bees a second win on the spin against the ten-man Greens under the Tuesday night lights at in a rather drab encounter at The Hive.

The Bees, missing injured striker Nicke Kabamba, had the better of the few chances in the first half with Myles Kenlock heading over, Idris Kanu shooting widely over and Callum Stead off target with a header.

The second half saw the Greens start to come into it and, on 64 minutes, they had the first shot on target when great play eventually found Kyle McAllister whose shot forced Bees keeper Nick Hayes to save low down.

Then, with 15 minutes to go, the Greens Sean Long was sent off after receiving 2 yellow cards in the space of ten minutes: the first for taking long to take a throw on and the second for a bad tackle.

Thereafter the Bees were initially finding the ten men difficult to break down. Then came the breakthrough: Stead laid the ball onto Brunt running into the box and he swept the ball home past keeper Jed Ward to send the home fans wild with delight.

Stead had a great opportunity to make it 2 minutes later, but Ward dived to his right to push the ball the away from the goal.

It did not matter. The Bees got over the line with Brunt’s goal: the win pushing them up to seventh, three points behind early leaders Eastleigh, who remain the only side to have won their opening three games.

The Bees are back at The Hive again this Saturday with Southend United the visitors.
