A Finchley sports club hopes to be free from foxes after a Barnet councillor secured funding for protection for its grounds.

Vulpine vandalism  at Finchley Victoria Bowling and Croquet Club has included nightly damage to the playing greens and holes being regularly being dug into. The club explained: “The foxes have also burrowed under and into the club’s old wooden storage shed used to store green keeping equipment. The shed has been damaged beyond feasible repair and is no longer secure.”

However West Finchley Labour councillor Ross Houston has now secured £4,000 for guard wires and other measures that will keep the foxes out.

Cllr Houston said: “The club gives so much for the community, it’s an accessible form of exercise for many, and is part of the glue that brings Finchley people together.

“I was delighted to support this bid that will protect it from fox damage”.
