Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Chipping Barnet Dan Tomlinson has said that the current government “can no longer be trusted with our health”.

Tomlinson was responding to new figures from NHS England which show that in September 2023 a total of 100,615 patients were waiting to begin treatment at hospitals run by the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

In hospitals operated by the trust, which serve Barnet residents, in the same period last year 91,014 patients were waiting for treatment, an increase of 10.5%.

In a statement, Tomlinson said: “This is a watershed moment for the NHS in Barnet. Local hospital waiting lists have surged over the past year, with this many people waiting for treatment in our area it’s clear that this Conservative government can no longer be trusted with our health.

He added: “Labour will reform the NHS so it is fit for the future. And we will provide an extra £1.1 billion to help the NHS beat the backlog, with additional clinics at evenings and weekends, as well as providing two million more appointments each year.”
