A loft conversion and half of the first floor were destroyed in a fire at a house in Mill Hill on Friday night.

Six fire engines and 40 firefighters were sent to tackle the fire at the semi-detached property on Longfield Avenue. There were no reports of any injuries.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said that an occupant of the house smelt burning and attempted to tackle the fire before leaving the building.

They added: “It’s vitally important that you do not attempt to tackle fires yourselves – leave it to the professionals. The quicker you call us, the quicker we can send fire engines to an incident.

“As soon as you become aware of a fire in your property, get out, stay out and call 999.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
