Chipping Barnet MP makes late call for Johnson to go By David Floyd
We cannot carry on as we are – Theresa Villiers
Theresa Villiers has issued a statement today calling on prime minister Boris Johnson to resign.
The statement – which was sent to Barnet Post around half an hour after the news of the imminent resignation emerged publically – says: “It is time for the Prime Minister to go. I hugely regret that it has come to this, but his position is no longer tenable. He has lost the confidence of his Government and his MPs.”
The Chipping Barnet MP goes on to say: “I appeal to the Prime Minister to put an end to this trauma and allow a new leader to be chosen. We cannot carry on as we are. There are too many crucial tasks ahead for this paralysis to be allowed to continue.”
The position of Hendon MP, Matthew Offord, remains unclear.
