A mural of the impressionist’s masterpiece The Water-Lily Pond has been unveiled at Brent Cross reports David Floyd

A massive mural of an artwork by French impressionist Claude Monet was unveiled in Brent Cross yesterday.
The 41 square metre reproduction of Monet’s masterpiece The Water-Lily Pond was hand-painted on to the wall at Brent Cross Town’s visitor pavilion in Claremont Park.
The artwork is part of a collaboration between the National Gallery and mural-painting company Global Street Art, which involves transforming major paintings in large format public artworks.
The painting was selected by students from local secondary school Clarion School who were given a shortlist of national gallery paintings to choose from.
Brent Cross Town is a joint venture between Barnet Council and developers Related Argent.
Related Argent’s marketing and communications director Chrissy Cullen said: “Welcoming a work as internationally recognised as The Water-Lily Pond at Brent Cross Town is a real privilege and it sits perfectly within our wider cultural vision for the neighbourhood, where art is woven into the public realm to create identity, strengthen wellbeing, celebrate local stories and encourage participation.
“Through community-led commissions, landmark installations and cultural programming, art helps shape Brent Cross Town as a place where people feel connected, inspired and proud to belong.”
Anne Clarke, Barnet Council’s cabinet member for culture and Cricklewood ward councillor, said: “We are delighted to welcome this piece of art to our borough that gives residents the opportunity to experience one of the world’s most celebrated artworks, and which has been hand-picked by local young people for display in the neighbourhood. This highly visible installation gives a real uplift to the area and provides a great backdrop for local conversation.”
