A Whetstone takeaway is celebrating after winning a national food award.
Bayleaf Takeaway in High Road, Whetstone received the Best Takeaway of the Year award at this year’s Curry Life Awards, which were presented at a prestigious ceremony on 4th October.
Bayleaf was established by Tofozzul Miah in 1995 and, despite being largely retired, he remains a partner in the business.
After receiving the awards, current manager Farhan Sadique Khan, known as Bappy, said: “Thank you firstly to our customers, who have been supporting us for over 30 years – they are the key reason for our sustainability.
“Secondly, the whole team, who work hard. And of course, the work process and everything was set up by Mr Miah, so a big credit goes to him as well.”
The Curry Life Awards are organised by Curry Life magazine. The organisers say the awards “honour professionals and business leaders in the curry industry who have demonstrated exceptional performance, achievement and culinary excellence”.
Curry Life editor Syed Belal Ahmed said: “The UK’s curry industry features some of the country’s most inspiring businesspeople and restaurateurs.
“We are delighted to give them a national platform from which to shout about their hard-won achievements so that they can continue to thrive. The British Curry Industry has once again done itself proud.”
