Mill Hill Village Cricket Club sweeps four titles in one season

The club’s 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th XIs all stormed their divisions in the Herts league, a feat Director of Cricket Phil Smith called “totally unprecedented” in his 40 years at the club writes David Hickey

Mill Hill Village Cricket Club has made history, claiming four titles in a single season.

The club’s 1st XI, 2nd XI, 3rd XI and 5th XI all stormed to the top of their respective divisions in the Herts Premier Cricket League this year — a clean sweep almost unheard of in club cricket.

It’s a stunning follow-up to 2025, when all five of Mill Hill Village’s adult league sides — four Saturday XIs and the Sunday 1st XI — won promotion in the same season.

This was the first time the fast-growing club had fielded a 5th XI in the Herts league.

The club’s 4th XI narrowly missed out on a promotion spot, finishing third.

Devraj Ray has now captained the 1st XI to back-to-back titles. The 1s had a particularly dominant Division 4A campaign this year, winning 14 of their 17 fixtures.

Mill Hill Village director of cricket Phil Smith said: “Last year we were amazed at how successful the club was, with four promotions, including our 1st XI going up as champions — this was unprecedented. I didn’t think we’d match that, let alone beat it, but we’ve gone three better this year.

“We achieved four divisional titles from our five Saturday adult teams, which is a remarkable, unprecedented achievement. It’s a season like no other, and I don’t expect it to be repeated. It’s another massive step forward for the club, and I’m delighted for everyone here.”
