New exhibition: Sambuca Steve

Sambuca Steve moved to London more than 30 years ago, although his accent still carries a hint of his childhood roots – almost Liverpudlian but not quite. He studied for a fine art degree and drew nearly every day, with a particular passion for comic art. Although he experimented with filmmaking at college, he eventually realised that painting was more affordable than producing films, and today he applies his creative skills to work as a general builder.

Steve specialises in gel and screen prints, working from his own home set-up. He continues to favour comic-inspired designs but is equally happy to take commissions in any style. He also has a soft spot for tattoo art, although he hasn’t got any tattoos on his body – yet!

As for the nickname, he explains, “Half the guys in my local are Steves: there’s Big Steve, Little Steve, Spitfire Steve – and me: Sambuca Steve.

A selection of his work is now on display at Old Marine Arts Group, a tattoo and art studio located on Colney Hatch Lane, until the end of January 2026.
