Two people have been arrested after cannabis with an estimated street value of around £160,000 was seized at a Barnet address this week.

Police officers acting on intelligence entered the property on Galley Lane on Tuesday and discovered more than 140 large cannabis plants along with a large amount of cash.

A 39-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of a controlled Class B drug. They have been released on bail while enquiries continue.

PC Lee, who is leading the investigation for Herts Police, said: “All drugs and the criminality associated with their use and supply can have devastating effects on local communities. They are often linked to acquisitive crime, such as burglary and theft, as well as violent offences.

“Cannabis factories in particular pose a significant risk to those living close by, as criminals often seek to access free electricity and set up unsafe wiring to power the lamps and fans needed to grow the plants.

“They will often knock down walls and block off ventilation to prevent the smell escaping, causing damp and structural damage which can affect adjoining properties.

“If you have any information about drug crime, please report it. Every call helps us to build up the intelligence we need to take action.”
