Starting 30 March 2026, Barnet Council will be reintroducing household food waste collection. In preparation, the ‘Doing our bit, Barnet’ campaign offers residents the opportunity to take part in food waste prize-draw, the prize being one of five £100 supermarket vouchers. The draw to win event closes on the 24th of October 2025.

The campaign aims to educate people about food waste—what and what not to dispose of and how to do it properly and supports the ‘Simpler Recycling’ initiative, created and designed to simplify recycling for residents, as well as supporting the borough’s goal of reaching net zero by 2042.

Cllr Alan Schneiderman, cabinet member for environment and climate change, said: “Many residents have been waiting for food waste collections to come back. Our ‘Doing Our Bit, Barnet’ campaign will show everyone how easy it is to recycle food waste ahead of the introduction of the weekly food waste collection next spring.

“The benefits of recycling food waste include cutting climate change emissions, saving money, and helping Barnet reach its net zero goals. This is about simple actions that together make a real difference for our borough and our planet.”

Caddy deliveries should be expected in the new year, following ‘get ready’ communications in December 2025.
