A trial expansion of a controlled parking zone (CPZ) is underway near Barnet Hospital and residents are being asked to give their views.

The existing Barnet Hospital CPZ was first introduced in 2018 and operates Monday to Saturday from 8am-6.30pm.

In February an experimental CPZ came into operation and now Brett Road, Farm Close, Hackforth Close, Quinta Drive, Raebarn Gardens, Ryecroft Crescent, St Peter’s Close and West Close are included in the scheme.

Operational times are unchanged and the statutory consultation on the expansion closes 24th August.

An informal engagement was carried out last year with the residents on the roads affected but only 17% said they were in favour of being included in the CPZ, while 78% said they were not in favour and 6% were unsure.

The residents who were not in favour stated the introduction of parking bays would result in “shortages of parking”, visitors would “not be able to park”, the proposed times were “too excessive” with a one or two hour CPZ preferred and it would be a  “struggle to afford permits”.

However, in response, the council said parking controls would mitigate the concerns raised, and permit parking areas (PPAs) have since been introduced to allow residents with existing valid Barnet Hospital CPZ permits to continue parking as before.

Double yellow lines have also been introduced at junctions and bends to “improve traffic flow”.

Residents have been encouraged to email the council to make any comments or objections, during the statutory six-month consultation.

On 1st October the council will publish its decision on the future of the scheme.
