The NHS trust has been created from a merger of two separate trusts that previously covered Barnet, Enfield and Haringey and Camden and Islington

A new NHS mental health trust has been launched today (1st November) to cover five North London boroughs.

North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT) has been created from a merger of two previous bodies, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey (BEH) and Camden and Islington mental health trusts.

The merger has been in the works for the past year and was made public in March. The plans were later approved by Health Secretary Wes Streeting.

It also follows several years where the former Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust had been very “successfully working together” as the North London Mental Health Partnership, with a single chair, chief executive and executive team.

A trust statement issued today said: “We have huge ambitions for the new trust and are really excited to take this next step, bringing together the best of the former

“Our commitment is that we will continue to work closely with our service users, carers, our staff, governors and local partners, to help us achieve our vision of ‘better mental health, better lives and better communities’ for local people.

“We are convinced that our new NLFT will help us in providing great care for those we serve and in providing great places to work for our staff.

“We are grateful to everyone internally and externally for their support in helping us to get to this point and we look forward to delivering improved services for local people across North London as the new North London NHS Foundation Trust.”

NLFT will now provide all age acute and community NHS mental health services across North London, as well as some services regionally and nationally, including personality disorders, children’s inpatient mental health services, inpatient eating disorders and a range of forensic mental health services for people in the criminal justice system with serious mental health conditions.

It will have a combined annual budget of £670million and employ 6,000 staff.
