Colindale Gardens welcomed over 400 people to celebrate their annual lunar celebration

Residents of Colindale Gardens welcomed over 400 members of the local community for for their second annual traditional East and Southeast Asian Moon Festival last week.
Celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, it is a day when the moon is believed to be at its brightest.
During the celebration attendees were able to cast their wishes to the moon and had a go at making lanterns with given lantern paperwork or paper brought from home. Attendees also enjoyed free mooncakes and had the chance to tackle 60 lantern riddles – 16 in English, 38 in Chinese – as well as six maths riddles.
The event was organised by the Colindale Gardens Social Committee which aims to provide activities that build a harmonious and happy community. Since being formed in 2020, the committee has been organising activities and events such as yoga classes, International Women’s Day and the annual Colindale Gardens Summer Fair. They have also created several clubs for residents to join such as their Family Club, Gardens Club and Board Games Club.
Lavender Ma, member of the Colindale Gardens Social Committee, said: “Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the Moon Festival. It was such a beautiful event and it was wonderful to see so many people come together to pay homage to the moon in all her beauty and glory.”
James Holmear, Group Sales Director at Redrow, the developers of Colindale Gardens said: “The Colindale Gardens Social Committee continues to go from strength to strength and the breadth of activities they organise is very impressive. It was great to see so many people from different backgrounds come together for this wonderful celebration.”
