Barnet 7 Tamworth 0

The Bees put Bank Holiday Monday’s defeat at Maidenhead well and truly behind them in the best possible fashion, giving Tamworth a harsh lesson on a tough afternoon for the newly promoted Lambs with Zak Brunt helping himself to a hat trick in a seven star showing.

The Bees made three changes to their starting line up from the loss at Maidenhead with Joe Rye, Harry Chapman & Reece Hall-Johnson in to replace Mark Shelton and Idris Kanu, who both dropped to the bench, whilst Ben Coker was not involved, presumed injured.

Callum Stead had the first sniff of goal for the Bees in the fifth minute but his header from a corner shaved the post.

However the Bees didn’t have to wait long to make the breakthrough, two minutes in fact when Brunt forced himself through after great play between Ryan Glover and Chapman, he took aim and shot hard into the net from eight yards beyond the dive of Lambs’ keeper Jas Singh.

Lambs’ first foray on the Bees goal came eight minutes after the home side’s opener from Nathan Tshikuna, but he fired wide and over and, when the same player had another sniff minutes later to level, keeper Nick Hayes got down well to smother his shot with the follow-up going just over the bar.

Goal number two for the Bees arrived on 27 minutes when Glover tried his luck, the ball going into the net via a Lambs’ boot.

Five minutes later Singh was at full stretch to tip over Hall-Johnson shot from the right however, from the resulting corner from Anthony Hartigan, the ball was cleared to Brunt who in turn shot through a crowd of players for goal number three.

The Lambs had another sniff of getting a goal back behind half time, but Chris Wreh’s header from a corner from Tom McGlinchley hit the post.

It took only four minutes of the second half for the Bees to get goal number four and it came from the penalty spot when Brunt was fouled and he took the kick himself and made no mistake for his treble as both the ball and the keeper went left.

On the hour the Bees made it five, with Shelton curling the ball into the corner in past Singh and two minutes later Stead rolled the ball into the net for a super six after Glover played the ball into the striker’s path.

Chapman got his name on scoresheet on 76 minutes to end the scoring at seven, taking a pull back from Kanu to shoot high first time into the net from the edge of the six yard box and end the misery for the Lambs and their supporters behind the goal.

They did keep trying to give their fans a goal to take back to Staffordshire, but Miracle Okafor was denied by the hand of Hayes as he deflected the ball past the post.

The Bees, now up to third, will go into next Saturday’s match at leaders Gateshead full of confidence after this afternoon’s result, but will know this will be a different test.
