No arrests yet made after two men were treated for non-life threatening injuries from shocking attack in broad daylight
Two people were injured in a machete attack in Cockfosters on Monday (8th) that appears to be gang related and was captured on CCTV.
The footage, posted on social media, shows a group of men standing in Cockfosters Parade, outside a row of restaurants including Middey’s and Mayhill’s, at 5.40pm on Monday afternoon. They don’t appear to be doing anything suspicious.
But a car then pulls up suddenly beside them, and two men get out wielding machetes. One of the attackers chases the group northwards towards Cockfosters Station, but one stays behind and subsequently engages in a fight with one of the people from the ambushed group, after he fought back using his own machete, previously concealed in his jacket.
This fight continues for around 30 seconds and spills out briefly into the traffic on Cockfosters Road, before the attacker returns to his car and speeds off.
Passers-by including a dog walker and an elderly lady are later seen heading towards the scene of the attack unaware of what had happened, before the man who had used his own machete to defend himself startles them and they run off.
The Metropolitan Police is investigating, but no arrests have been made. A spokesperson said: “Police were called to Cockfosters Parade following reports that a group of men were fighting with weapons. It was also reported that two men had suffered stab injuries.
“Officers and colleagues from London Ambulance Service attended the scene. Two men were taken to hospital with stab injuries. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.”
A crime scene that was in place yesterday has since been closed.
