Barnet Council is seeking views on four School Streets schemes that were launched in the borough earlier this year.

A School Street is a scheme where roads outside a school are closed to most of the traffic at school opening and closing times. They aim to create a safer environment for pupils to walk and cycle to school, to help prevent crowding from students and parents outside school gates and prevent vulnerable road users being forced onto the carriageway with traffic.  Vehicles are not permitted to enter the restricted area during operational hours unless they have been granted an exemption, with residents, businesses, blue badge holders and emergency vehicles permitted to enter.

After a consultation in the summer of 2023, four temporary School Street schemes were implemented in April 2024:

  • Moss Hall Federation
  • St Johns Cof E Primary School and Friern Barnet School
  • Holly Park Primary School
  • Childs Hill School

Barnet is now seeking view on these schemes, with a closing deadline for submissions in the autumn of 2024.

Those wishing to submit views should visit the barnet Council website: https://engage.barnet.gov.uk/school-street-engagement
