Barnet Council is seeking views on elective home education as part of a councillor-led scrutiny review of elective home education in the brough.

Elective Home Education is when a parent or carer has decided to educate their child/ren outside the school system. This means that they have the freedom to choose the learning programme that best suits their child’s learning needs.

The council are reviewing the support given to those who choose to home educate their child or children and are looking for insights from parents or carers who are currently, or have in the past, home schooled their child or children using the elective home education scheme (EHE).

Outcomes from the review will result in recommendations to Council Cabinet, setting out suggestions based on the findings on ways to make the service better. The Council will publish the results of the consultation in June 2024.

Those wishing to share their views should complete the online questionnaire at the Barnet Council website by 12th February 2024: https://engage.barnet.gov.uk/elective-home-education-review
