Theresa Villiers was one of over 100 MPs backing the call to support British farmers by highlighting their produce

A local MP is a prominent signatory of an open letter demanding that supermarkets do more to support British farmers through their online stores.
Chipping Barnet representative Theresa Villiers is one of over 100 MPs who have signed the letter as part of a campaign led by fellow Conservative MP Luke Evans.
The letter sent to supermarket chief executives calls on the companies to: “highlight the very best of British produce by incorporating a ‘Buy British’ section on online stores.”
It continues: “We hear time and time again from farmers themselves that the best way to support them is to buy British produce. By signposting shoppers, you give consumers who want to support our nation’s farmers even greater choice.”
Highlighting her support for the campaign, Villiers told The Telegraph: “We produce some of the best food in the world in the UK. Buying British food helps our farmers, it cuts down on carbon emissions from food miles and it boosts our rural economy.”
