Egle Rameikaite reports on a big win for Cockfosters-based Skewd Kitchen

A local restaurant has won a prestigious new award for top Turkish restaurants in the UK.
Skewd Kitchen in Cockfosters was successful in the fine dining category of the first ever Turkish Restaurant and Takeaway awards (TURTA). The awards ceremony, held at the House of Commons yesterday, was hosted by MP Feryal Clark, with attendees from across the political spectrum.
Skewd Kitchen’s manager, Ilyas Cayir told Barnet Post said, “The award means a lot for our team because there is a lot of hard work and ethics that goes into this – and at the same time we have a team that is passionate about what they are doing. It’s definitely going to be a boost for morale – and motivation for going forward to do better.”
Despite the challenge of operating during the Covid-19 and the cost of living crisis, this is the second award received by Skewd Kitchen in recent years. In 2019, the restaurant was recognised as the best fine dining restaurant in The British Kebab awards.
The popularity of the restaurant can be attributed to its consistency: “very good quality and standards”, says Ilyas. “Our concept is traditional Turkish food but with a twist, where we create our own dishes, exclusively.”
16 awards were given out at the ceremony to celebrate the best Turkish restaurants across the UK in categories ranging from best value restaurant to best fine dining restaurant.
Musa Akan, spokesperson for the TURTA awards said, “The past year has tested every business operating in the hospitality sector, winning this award at the first ever ceremony is a huge achievement and the winners should be proud.”
