Man dies in Finchley flat fire

The cause of the blaze is now under investigation

A man has died in a flat fire in Nether Street, Finchley, on Thursday morning.

Firefighters arrived to tackle the blaze at a two-storey block of flats shortly before 7am. All of a four-roomed flat on the first floor and the roof of the building were destroyed.

London Fire Brigade was called at 6.53am and the fire was under control by 9.12am. Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters from Barnet, Southgate, Mill Hill, Finchley and Hendon fire stations attended the scene. 

The cause of the fire will be investigated.
