A safety net for local homeless people

A summer update from Together in Barnet

Together in Barnet (TiB) provides a safety net for those needing a safe and welcoming place away from the streets in Barnet. We run the only night shelter provision in the borough, offering people of all genders with low to medium needs who are experiencing homelessness emergency accommodation. With the help of a coalition of interfaith volunteers from 32 multi-faith communities we provide 17 people per night a warm, welcoming, safe place to sleep, dinner and breakfast. We take referrals directly from our long-standing partner charity, Homeless Action in Barnet (HAB). In response to the pandemic, we opened a Covid-safe 16 bed, 24/7 project in a local hotel in January 2021 until June 2021 and then opened again in October 2021 and closed at the end of March 2022. In total, we supported 52 people with emergency accommodation for a total of 194 nights and served over 6000 meals. Of the 52 people we supported with emergency accommodation, 48 of those engaged with support and moved on from the hotel into more stable accommodation. In total, we supported 52 people with emergency accommodation for a total of 194 nights and served over 6000 meals. How you can be involved: How you can be involved:

Could you 'donate' a skill/talent for the day or donate a prize for our raffle/auction? If you or your company would like to donate a prize for the raffle and/or silent auction, or you have a special skill that you could ‘donate’ for the day (e.g. magic tricks, face painting, entertainment, baked cakes or other snacks) please email: [email protected]  Could you 'donate' a skill/talent for the day or donate a prize for our raffle/auction? If you or your company would like to donate a prize for the raffle and/or silent auction, or you have a special skill that you could ‘donate’ for the day (e.g. magic tricks, face painting, entertainment, baked cakes or other snacks) please email: [email protected]

We are also looking for people with a passion for the work that Together in Barnet does, to come on board as trustees. We are especially looking for coordinators or experienced volunteers and those who have the lived experience of staying at or running the shelter and know our shelter through and through. We are also looking for anyone with fundraising and/or social media and marketing experience. We are also looking for people with a passion for the work that Together in Barnet does, to come on board as trustees. The commitment is to attend meetings once every two months and taking on some ad hoc tasks in between meetings where needed. The role of a trustee is to sit on the board and help shape the direction and focus of the charity. We know there are so many people in our community who would really benefit the charity and help us take TiB to the next level.
